I am currently lost and found in an enlightening and confusing period. The trained palate – perhaps in an effort to elevate itself from the cigar snob through detailed attention – will name anywhere between 3, 30 and even 300+ taste notes to be perceived from a single cigar. Though mostly active in the wine, whiskey and cheese tasting fields, we find some individuals investigating cigars on a level unknown to most of those dying of usual cause.
This “Double Corona” from Martinez Hand Rolled Cigars, New York City, is an invitation to new levels of cigar perception. It tastes massive, gentle, complex, smooth… imagine a fig-cabbage pie or pumpernickel…
As understandable as it might feel to praise cigar blenders, and to list references to the taste of a cigar that most minds would not even dare fathom, naming these could also be seen as our inability to understand the tobacco taste as tobacco taste. Thus, I feel lost and I feel found.
Incidentally, a close-up shot should not fool the eye into thinking that the size is just enlargement. This is a sixty gauge.
